Ever wonder why some plants get judged and awarded by the American Orchid Society? Or what the abbreviations (HCC, AM or CCM) attached to awarded plants means? This month you can get all your questions answered, as the Pacific Central Judging Center of the AOS will be doing live orchid judging at our club meeting.
The presentation will first cover:
1. What the AOS is looking for in its judging program and the types of awards the AOS gives out.
2. What makes an award-quality plant
3. How to clean up and prepare plants for judging
4. The database that the judges use to see previous awards to any plant brought in for judging. This database can also be used to evaluate the parents and/or siblings of any hybrid.
Then the team will conduct a real judging session which may result in awards being given out at our club meeting! You will get to listen to the judges discuss the pros and cons of an entry and see how they score the plant.
So bring in your blooming plants for the judges to evaluate. They will give out feedback about your plant, and may even give it an award! All plants brought in for judging will be evaluated, and feedback given. Some may even win awards!
OPPORTUNITY TABLE: Plants for this month's meeting will be provided by Weegie Caughlan.
