"Laelia anceps, Cymbidium Companions"



Our speaker for September will be Ken Jacobsen speaking on Laelia anceps, a cymbidium companion plant, covering some of the taxonomic history, the populations in nature, the various well-known forms, and a bit on their culture. For our climate here in the Bay Area, anceps are a great companion plant to cymbidiums, and provide variety in blooming times and color forms.

Ken was first introduced to orchids by his uncle in the 1960’s and has been growing orchids for well over 40 years. His collection includes Cymbidiums, Sarcochilus, Oncidiums, Odontoglossums, Lycastes, Cattleyas, Laelias, Masdevallias and several other genera.

Ken and his wife, Amy, enjoy travelling to all areas of the world where orchids are grown, visiting the local growers, and seeing various species in the wild. Together, Amy and Ken have over 7000 orchids and many awards. Ken and Amy are both judges in the AOS judging program. Ken was a past CSA judge, past AOS Trustee and a past president of POS.

Ken will be providing the Opportunity Table from his personal collection of Laelia anceps, and other species.

3) From whom your acquisition was made, cultivation information and as much info as possible, by Thursday, 12 noon, to give Sylvia time to assemble photos.



YOU WANT TO SHOW YOUR OWN PHOTOS AT THE ZOOM MEETING?





If you did not send your photos to Sylvia Darr in time, and you Want to show your photos on Your computer in the Zoom Meetings during the Show and Tell period, you should be ready to Take Control and Share Your Desktop:

1st) A Day Before, make sure you saved the photos file you want to show ON your computer's Desktop screen.

2nd) OPEN the 1st photo of your Powerpoint file (usually) or whatever you are using, and leave it open on your desktop. Then go back to the regular Zoom Meeting. When you are asked to show your plants, on your screen, go to the bottom of your screen, click on the Green "Share Screen" button (bottom middle, of your screen), and YOUR desktop screen should appear.

3rd) Click on the file you want to show, then click on the Blue "Share" button (bottom right, usually). Scroll through your photos and discuss them. When you are done, click on the Red "Stop Share" Button. It will then throw you back into the General Group Zoom Page, and you are DONE!

4th) It helps to turn on Zoom, and practice this procedure a few times to get it right BEFORE the day of the meeting.
